A Life Reimagined
For years, our family lived the fast-paced life of Chicago, but the constant hustle left us searching for something more: a better work-life balance and a deeper connection to nature. Five years ago, we made a major change, moving to Missouri and instantly fell in love with the abundant greenery and dramatic landscapes of the Ozarks.

Our roots run deep in the Dominican Republic, an island paradise where the culture is built around community and the land is rich with diverse climates—from vibrant beaches to misty mountains and lush forests.

Finding Our Sanctuary
In Missouri, we were on a mission to find a piece of land that felt as rich in nature as our home country. We wanted a place where we could genuinely slow down and breathe.
That search led us to this beautiful, 42-acre parcel nestled in the Mark Twain National Forest, and to our first Bohío (boh-ee-oh). This cabin is not just a rental; it's the beginning of a family business dedicated to sharing the peace and natural beauty we've found here.
The meaning behind Bohio
Bohío (Pronounced: boh-ee-oh) means, an original thatched-roof hut or dwelling of the Taíno people in the Caribbean. Over time, the word has come to mean a comfortable, simple, and beloved home or shack—a place of rest and refuge."Our family chose the name Bohío because it perfectly captured the spirit of this Ozarks retreat. While our cabin has a sturdy, modern roof, its heart is that of a true Bohío. It’s a place built for simple pleasures: a retreat from the world, a shelter from the storm, and a cozy gathering spot for family and friends.

Our Vision
Our goal is simple: to offer guests an experience where they can truly relax and unwind from city life and feel the peace and comfort that the word Bohío represents—whether that means exploring the forest, reading on the porch, or just spending unhurried time with family. We look forward to eventually building more cabins—more Bohios—to expand this sanctuary for others seeking refuge in nature.
